Summer Hair Care Routine | Preity Prerna

"How often should I wash my hair?"

"Should I apply conditioner after every wash?"

"How often should I oil my hair?"

"When should I apply hair serum?"

Setting up a skincare routine is somewhat easy. You have a daily skincare routine based on your skin type and a particular schedule for face masks and other treatments.

But when it comes to haircare schedules, most people find themselves lost. I understand this confusion, so I am here to help you form a haircare routine.

Table of Contents:

Most people do not understand the importance of having a fixed routine for hair, just like they have one for the skin. Especially in summer, your hair requires extra care.

During summer, our hair goes through dirt, dust, pollution, and the harsh UV rays of the sun. People start facing problems like oily scalps, dry hair, dandruff, hair fall, and other hair-related issues.

You can tackle these issues with a simple haircare routine. It need not be an elaborate routine with multiple steps but a simple day-to-day schedule to avoid confusion and take care of the hair.

I am going to help you by laying out a simple routine. You can modify it according to your comfort and your hair. Everybody has a different hair type.

The layout I am discussing will help you plan your ideal routine. You need not stick strictly to this routine but make changes according to your hair.

So let's get into planning a haircare week! You can start your routine from any day of the week. I am choosing the first day of the week, i.e., Monday, to give you a general layout.

Weekly Routine

MONDAY:

Start your week by shampooing your hair. If you oiled your hair, you can go for a chemical-based shampoo. If not, strictly use a herbal or baby shampoo.

The reason behind using a mild shampoo on non-oiled hair is that it will protect your hair from getting dry.

A chemical-based shampoo on non-oiled hair can reduce moisture and dry out the hair, and dandruff can reappear on your scalp. If you use a hair serum, apply it after washing your hair.

You can style your hair however you like and enjoy the rest of the day! But do not leave your hair untied at night.

Comb and detangle your hair and tie it nicely. It is important because your hair, like your body, also needs rest.

TUESDAY:

On the second day of the week, you can apply serum or toner to the roots of your hair.

Those with thick and heavy hair might notice heat getting trapped in their scalp. It leads to the hair losing its freshness.

Applying toner or serum (whichever suits you the best) will rejuvenate freshness. You can then style your hair the way you like.

Again, do not forget to comb and detangle your hair before bed and tie them nicely.

WEDNESDAY:

If you go out daily, use public transportation, or do outdoor tasks, you should wash your hair on Wednesday. You will feel the need to wash your hair yourself!

Hair gets dirty and loses freshness if exposed to the outdoors regularly. So make sure to keep the scalp clean!

If you mostly remain indoors, have a job that does not require going out much, and do not go out often, you need not wash your hair on the third day.

Instead, soak a towel in water and clean your scalp nicely. This way, your scalp will get cleaned and refreshed!

You might get an oily scalp as the day progresses. It is okay (after all, it is the third day!)

Again, at night - comb, detangle, tie!

THURSDAY:

Most people do not prefer to wash their hair on Thursdays for various reasons. But it is the fourth day, and the hair needs proper freshening.

So, for the fourth day of the week, you can freshen up your hair using a leave-in conditioner. Apply the leave-in conditioner nicely on the lengths of the hair and a little bit on the scalp.

It will maintain freshness, prevent the scalp from smelling, and prevent dandruff from showing. Keep your hair tied throughout the day.

If you are comfortable with overnight oiling, do oiling on your hair. Use the oil of your liking. If you are doing a remedy, use that oil.

If you are confused about which oil to use, the best options are almond and coconut oil. Tie your hair properly after oiling.

FRIDAY:

Friday is the onset of the weekend.

On this day, you will wash your hair. If you did not oil your hair on Thursday, do oiling one hour before washing your hair. Use a conditioner, serum, leave-in conditioner, or whatever you usually do on your hair wash day.

Now you can style your hair in any way and enjoy the day.

SATURDAY:

Saturday should be the hair-fasting day. What is hair-fasting? In hair-fast, we give a break to our hair. We applied many products to our hair throughout the week.

Now is the time to give them a break! Do not apply anything, and leave the hair as they are. Just comb and style the way you like.

Do not forget to comb or brush your hair. Combing the hair helps in proper blood circulation on the scalp.

SUNDAY:

The last day of the week! You can do any remedy of your choice on Sunday. If you want to apply heena, go for it.

If you feel like doing the flaxseed gel remedy, do it! And if you feel like doing nothing, that is fine too! But at night, do not forget to oil your hair nicely to kick-start the routine for the next week.

The only thing you need to keep in mind while following this routine is to keep a check on your hair. If at any point you feel that your hair is getting dry, this means that this particular routine does not suit you. Start making changes as per the comfort of your hair.

Now, the reason why I ask you to comb and tie your hair before going to bed every day - combing/brushing the hair improves blood circulation, and tieing the hair (preferably braiding) is like an exercise for hair.

Conclusion:

I hope this routine will help you to figure out your ideal haircare routine. Use this one to kick-start a perfect journey for you and modify it accordingly.
